Vase with Black Slip Inlay
Vase with Black Slip Inlay
My Grandmother would often shake her head, confused why shorts cost the same amount of money as pants. It was hard to argue with her logic.
I often think of her when I chose not to put glaze on the outside of a pot. When I chose less instead of more.
It’s not an economic decision that influences my process. Instead, I want to see how the raw clay after being wood fired. I want to see the specking of the ash deposits and how the flame of the kiln changes the color hue from top to bottom and side to side. I did choose to add a black slip in-lay to high lite the skinny curves and upward reaching of this vase. And also, at that very top, a hint of copper green glaze.
